Money Minute #55 – When Banks Went On Strike


What thought comes to mind if I mention the word “banker”? I’d imagine like most people, you would think of words such as greedy, money grabbing and “fat cat”. However, I’m sure you weren’t aware that bankers for all of their sins have previously gone on strike?

In our latest segment of “Money Minute,” we look at why banking employees int he 1970’s went on strike in Ireland, and the economic impact it had on the country as a whole.

The question today is, do we really need to rely on banks to transfer value between ourselves?
