“The Hong Kong Security Laws are a Constitutional Coup”

Welcome to a special edition of Money & Me dedicated to a single topic, Hong Kong.

There’s a famous quote attributed to Edmund Burke – ‘the only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing’ 2020 has seen evil on an egregious scale with the passing of China’s new security laws in Hong Kong which, even for the country that brought us Tiananmen Square and the Cultural Revolution, has reached new levels of human rights abuses with laws that can make criminals out of you and I even as we sit here in our British living rooms. The question is, are the good men going to do something about it?

One man who is definitely on the side of good is my guest today. I’ve known him personally for many years as we go to the same church, but what’s most relevant for today is that he is the director of Hong Kong Watch, a charity that provides independent analysis and commentary on freedom and human rights in Hong Kong. His name is Johnny Patterson.
